RE: Ford v10 on 350 van

I would agree with Jim. The improved flow heads started in 2000~2001 and those seem to have the plug blow out issue.

RE: Timbrens or Air Bags

If unloaded ride is very important I would get the air bags. My F250 Can get a little bouncy with the Timbrens and an empty bed. I rarely use my truck to haul air so the Timbrens work well for me.

RE: Expedition: Convert to towing package?

Almost all the Eddie Bauers AWD have the tow package. I had a hard time findin g a 2wd when we bought our 2004.
You should be able to find several with $4 gas and such.

RE: 2008 Ford F250SD V10 4x4

Fuel economy will increase slowly over the first 10,000 miles. It takes a while for the V10 to break in.
If you have 4.30 gears, you probably will never see much over 14 mpgs. 15+ is only likely if you have 3.73 gears.
Yes gets better after about 5k.
15+ MPG I wish. You guys kill me.

RE: KAWASAKI KFX450R

No dunes but sugar sand in flat Florida: Nice bike, good low/mid power some what flat on top. Too much heat off the header is my only gripe.

RE: Hankook tires

F150s to busses, they are good tires. I just put 4 RF10s on my F250. E rated , nice tred, nice ride. No miles with the camper yet.

RE: Not your basic gas vs. diesel question

1. Too much bull pucky in these post in general.
2. For the weight you expect to pull: A diesel would be the better choice.
3. You need to consider how many miles will you will drive each year.
4. IMHO all the current light duty diesels are crap, plagued with emission issues.
5. I've been a diesel mechanic for 31 years: Look at what I use……

RE: New Ragen Toy Hauler - Towing Help

Congrats on the new rig.
I have a co-worker pulling a Jayco TH at about 8,500 with his Tundra and he says it tows well. WD bars are a must. Granted we are in flat Florida but he has made a few trips to the NE with no problems.
It might be a handful near max weight.
You have to watch your hitch weight and load accordingly. A trip to the scales after loading it for a typical trip will help.
Example: My fuel tank is at the rear and I found keeping it full took a little weight off the hitch.

RE: 2001 Ford Screw 4x4 Needs shocks.

Plain old Monroes have done well. For a Mazda to transit bus they make them right for most application. Every truck/suv I have owned since 1989 got Monroes at one time. My 04 F250 will get them soon.

RE: F250 V10 supposed to tow 11k but ca't even haul 8K? Help

OK, So here is the verdict from Ford, It is a bad cat converter. Caused by the bad coil the truck had,(This I had fixed a few weeks ago.) over time the bad coil caused the excess fuel to lead to the converter and in time killed it. The big deal is that the converter is about 1300 hundred bucks. So there you have it. Thanks to everyones thoughts! smprincipal
Ford sells it with pipes and all.
As others noted: A good local muffler shop should be able to weld in a new one on for less than $700.00
I would also replace the O2 sensors if they are more than 4 years old.
With the V10 being a workhorse Ford set some very loose parameters on the ECM. The O2s have to just about quit or dead short to throw a code. The ECM needs to see about 300 misfire in one cycle before it will throw a code. Ford knew some owners were going to beat this motor.

RE: What Happened To Mobil 1 ?

Don't know for sure if they stopped producing it. I suspect they did not have a formulation meeting the new CJ4 specs for diesel motor oil. At least not yet.

RE: Thinking of this, would like all opinions

Is this a joke?
Nope. 6.2 was always an "automotive" diesel. If not worked too hard I have seen many past the 250k. (It will take about 3~4 fuel pumps to make it there)

RE: Still no breaks on my 07 keystone RV

I found the first set of wire nuts on the first wheel to appear to be slighted melted. I cut the wires and spliced them together but that did not fix the problem. The wires going thru the axles seem ok from what I can see. I am hoping the problem is not the magnets or inside the breaks. As you know it's a lot of work to get to them. So I will ask you, what would you think this would be? Does it sound like I am on the right track?
I would say yes. I would think your 2nd black wire is grounded some were. Wire nuts can deal with a bit of voltage/heat so that seems a bit fishy.
12v wants the path of least resistance back to the battery. A bare spot in the wire or a pinch by a screw would dump the juice back the ground and heat up that wire nut. Chase the black wire down looking at any bend, kink, or possible rub spot.

RE: DYNOMAX SUPER TURBO MUFFLER/EXHAUST

I would say both, some performance and some noise. I have used the Dynomax on a few cars/trucks and they were nice, not too loud.
I have the "large body" Magnaflow on my 6.8L. Just a little burb at idle some noise under heavy throttle. (6.8L V10s sound like formula cars at 4~5000 rpm. to me) If nothing else I lost about 70 lbs of metal compared to the OEM unit.

RE: Superglide bangs unhitched

Yes, unhitched and well lubed it will slide and bang. That nasty thing called gravity uses the realease handle to sling it around. I use a plain old bunge cord hooked to a ss eyelet on my tool box to keep it pulled foward.

Goodyear Marathons and Maxis have done we well for years. In not sure about that size. Our county fleet use marathons and they take a beating.
